Reviews for Computer Science Tutors

5.0

Mrs Phillips - I would highly recommend Teachers To Your Home. I have found my children's tutors to be of a high calibre, very conscientious, caring and kind and they have made a significant contribution to my children's learning. Teachers To Your Home is a well run service and I have felt it has provided a safe platform in securing excellent tutoring.

Mrs Parry - Alan was very helpful in providing extra support for my son taking BTEC IT. He explained everything clearly supported with detailed notes. Had exceptional knowlege about the subject.

Richard Farnes - Andrew taught our son Samuel Computer Science online over the course of a year or so via the Teachers to Your Home resource. Sam was working towards a GCSE in the subject but was home-learning, having found the crowded and noisy school environment difficult to return to after Covid-19. Andrew is an exemplary online teacher, and fulfilled Sam's needs exactly. Even before we started Andrew was very helpful in advising on frequency of lessons, lead-in times and the different facets of the GCSE course. He was always entirely flexible with his time, willing to accommodate Sam's varying availability and quite clearly wanting to fulfil his role as a tutor exactly to suit Sam's best interests. He was very clear about the overall structure of the course and the relative value of different sections in the final examinations. It quickly became evident that he is a knowledgeable and highly experienced teacher in this field, and he provided Sam with - and guided him towards - all the necessary resources required. I sat in on some of the online lessons. Sam could be a very negative, introspective teenager, but he found Andrew's lessons informative, clear and challenging in a positive way - and, above all, stimulating. Sam might be in a glum, uncommunicative mood beforehand, but he would come out of a session feeling much more upbeat, not just about the subject and even about life in general. He found Andrew's approach well-organised, friendly and supportive, and extremely encouraging. As a result Sam decided to take the subject on to A-level, and he began to understand the value that Computer Science skills might bring to a career. Without hesitation I would highly recommend Andrew Howard as an online course tutor for students of any ability, both as home learners or for those wishing to gain extra support alongside their school or college studies. I have since even been tempted to request some Computer Science tuition from him for myself!

Mrs Stuttard - Andrew has been tutoring our son since January 2025. Already the sessions have made so much difference. Our son is feeling much more confident about the course specification, exam technique and content. It is very apparent that Andrew is an expert in his field and brilliant at quickly building a rapport so his students feel at ease and able to learn effectively. Our son is more enthused about the subject because he feels more confident about what he needs to do. Andrew has also been able to share lots of excellent resources and has given sound revision advice, which has also been a great help. We are absolutely delighted with Andrew's professionalism, commitment, subject knowledge and expert guidance. Would highly recommend!

Mrs Jackson - Anwar has supported our son through a very well prepared period of intensive catch up work for GCSE Business Studies. He is an excellent tutor, with a passion for his subject and an encouraging approach. My son said he was the best tutor he has worked with. We would like to thank Anwar for all his hard work and always keeping us up to date with our son's progress. I would have no hesitation in recommending him. He is a true professional!

Mrs Wild - Teachers to your home was a great way for us to organise shared tuition between our daughter and her two friends for their Computer Science GCSE. Peter Burnett was able to assess their prior knowledge and plan, in agreement with the girls, a focus for each session. He was really clear about exactly what they needed to know. We would definitely recommend.

Mrs Sam Morris - Peter has been a great tutor. My daughters knowledge of computing GCSE has vastly increased as has her confidence in the subject making approaching the actual exam a lot easier. Initially identifying gaps in knowledge to an overall review of the whole syllabus. Also been very accommodating with any changes in times needed to weekly lessons for other activities and half term. I would very much recommend.

Mrs Gadsden - We are really proud and very pleased with our daughter and the grade at GCSE Computer Science that she was awarded in August 2023. Thank you for all your help and support. Your tutoring and her hard work increased her outcomes by 2 grades!

Mrs P Sharma - Karl was an excellent tutor. He arrived promptly to weekly face-to-face sessions. He was very flexible with session timings and being able to accommodate extra revision sessions closer to my son's exams. Karl worked with my son on areas he needed to improve (identified from the specification/mock exams), talking through theory-related topics, lots of programming practice and went over exam technique, especially with the pseudocode-related questions. My son got a grade 7 in his GCSE Computer Science, and we are over the moon with the support Karl gave and as a tutor. My son has now opted to study A-Level Computer Science.

Mrs Culpeper - Tom's confidence and positivity have massively improved since he has been having tutoring sessions with you. It is brilliant that he has your support with his NEA project, that you can teach him topics that he has missed through his illness and that you can help him prepare/ revise for his A-Level exam. He was getting very disillusioned with Computer Science before he had you and felt that his goal of going to university to do a Computer Science / Software engineering degree was unattainable. He very much enjoys his sessions with you. He says that you are easy to talk to and he feels very comfortable being with you. Tom like's the fact that he can send you work that he is doing/ things that he is stuck on as and when needed, for you both to resolve together in the next session. You explain things clearly and help him to find his own solutions. As the NEA project coding needs to be done by early November, he might need to have two lessons a week for some weeks before this deadline. We hope this is ok with you. We'll let Tom decide as to when he needs extra lessons and arrange this with you. Thank you for everything that you are doing for Tom. We feel very relieved and grateful that he has your help. He has had a massive struggle (physically and mentally) with his ME/CFS for nearly 6 years now and has gone from bed-bound/ in a wheelchair to managing 6th form college on a reduced timetable. I think that your help will give him that extra boost and enable him to see that he does have a future (he hasn't previously thought this). Many thanks, Vivienne

Mrs Rees - I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Christy. He's really helped our son build up confidence and prepare for his Computer Science GCSE. Thank you! 😊

Miss Elder - My year 11 daughter has had 2 lessons with Jenny so far (we've weekly lessons scheduled for the foreseeable). When asked how the first session went my daughter responded really positively saying "it was brilliant". My daughter is not just a passive recipient in the lesson. The lessons with Jenny are highly interactive and Jenny makes sure to keep her engaged throughout the entire lesson. Thank you Jenny 😊

Mrs Wright - Mick planned the lessons very well to meet the needs of our son. He explained the topics at a level our son understood. I would recommend Mick as a private tutor.

Mrs Forsyth - Mick really understood the challengers our daughter was finding at school and planned each lessons to meet her needs. Her confidence has grown massively and is happier at school. We would recommend Mick as a tutor. Thank you so much for your help!

Sreeram - Marion is a fantastic tutor!

Mrs - Roberta has a great relationship with my 14-year-old daughter and has made such a positive difference in my daughter's studies! I would highly recommend Roberta.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a Computer Science tutor coming to your home to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the Computer Science tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the Computer Science tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the Computer Science tutor is required to travel to your home. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your Computer Science tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your Computer Science tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of Computer Science tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group Computer Science tuition depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
